A family in the Lakeland is still in shock after an accident on side by side has left a young woman who had been in a coma for several days.

Last Sunday evening, Zoey Warner and her boyfriend were out with friends on their side by side UTV. However, the machine flipped, and while the pair were wearing seatbelts, they were not wearing helmets.

Zoey lost consciousness and had to be airlifted to the U of A hospital, where she has been in the neurology intensive care unit.

With difficulty breathing, she was placed in a medically induced coma, as she sustained a brain bleed as well as three small skull fractures.

Zoey’s aunt Chelsea started a GoFundMe, as they don’t know how long they will be in Edmonton for her treatment.

But the family did get some good news recently.

Dawn Thibault, the beneficiary of the fundraiser, said on the GoFundMe, on Friday that, “Today Zoey was breathing completely on her own and the breathing tube was removed. Within a couple hours of that she opened her eyes.”

For those looking to help the cause, you can find the GoFundMe here.
