Wainwright man sentenced to life imprisonment after second degree plea

A man who pleaded guilty to second degree murder in Wainwright was recently charged with life imprisonment.

Joseph Fabian Dube, 54, received the life imprisonment sentence on May 23, 2025, for the murder of Nicole Amundson, 50, after being in custody for over three years. 

He entered into the plea back on Dec. 4, 2023, and is eligible to request parole in 11 years. 

The murder happened in the late afternoon on Feb. 22, 2022.

Wainwright RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress at a house near the Wainwright Hospital. 

Police reported at the time that they saw Dube assaulting the woman. Amundson would succumb from her injuries.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation, and the next day, announced the arrest of Dube. 

According to initial information, Dube and Amundson knew each other, but were estranged.

Both were from Wainwright.
