Truck thief allegedly used garage as chop shop to sell parts on FB Marketplace: RCMP

A 29-year-old has been arrested and charged after it was discovered he was selling stolen truck parts on Facebook Marketplace, according to the Kitscoty RCMP.

Kitscoty RCMP, with help from Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and Alberta RCMP Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, conducted an investigation following a tip on May 27. 

They executed a search warrant at a local mechanic shop in the Kitscoty area. 

The suspect was stealing the vehicles and cutting them up at the business in order to sell the parts, police say. 

As a result of the search, four stolen vehicles and one stolen license plate were recovered. The vehicles were later discovered to have been stolen out of Lloydminster, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Maidstone. 

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Lloydminster resident was arrested and has since been released. Their name was not released to media. 

The following charges are pending:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000 (x4);
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking; and
  • Trafficking of stolen property under $5000.

The individual is scheduled to Appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on August 12, 2025.
