The family of Emma Eliza Sandfly of Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved mother, kohkom, capan and sister on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at the age of 76 years.

Emma will live on in the memories of her children: Diane Fiddler (Edward Chief), Delores (Norman) Crookedneck, Yvonne Sandfly (Kelly Ochuschyoo), Leanne Sandfly (Harold Chief), Sharon Sandfly (Peter Dumais), Romeo (Angie) Sandfly, Russell Sandfly (Helen Demarais). Grand Children: Jonah Fiddler, Shaun Fiddler, Patrick Sandfly, Adriel Sandfly, Kendall Sandfly, Grace Sandfly, Adrienne Sandfly, Nadine Sandfly, Cherish Sandfly, Tara Ben, Jennah Ben, Ryder Sandfly, Thunder Ben, Kiara Sandfly, Desiree Sandfly, Melanie Harris, Kashtin Sandfly, Cheyenne Sandfly, Madison Sandfly, Zachariah Angus, Isaac Sandfly, Alanis Kahpeepatow, Whitney Sandfly, Audrey Sandfly, Waverlee Sandfly, Jerome Sandfly, Harvey Dillon, Capri Sandfly, Dwight Sandfly, Riviera Dumais, Christopher Waterhen, Carlyle Waterhen-Sandfly, Tracey Waterhen, Lucious Dillon-Khanapewit, Helen Demarais, Khloe Sky Sandfly-Demarais, Brooks James Khanapewit, Storm Kahpeepatow, Wynter Kahpeepatow; many capans. Sisters: Dorothy Sandfly, Marlene Sandfly, Alma Sandfly; Step-daughters: Caroline Lorenz, Nora Crookedneck, Vivian Dillon, Connie Dillon, Geraldine Crookedneck: Step-sons: Leo Horse, Fred Cross, Charles Thundervoice, Fred Mitsuing; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Emma was loving, caring and humorous and very humbled mother, Grandma, Great grandma, aunt, sister, and friend. She was well raised by her late mother Mary Rose. Where she picked up her humbleness and hard work till she got older. She raised her two grandchildren Isaac and Alanis which was her princess. She got to see her three great chapans before passing whom she was so proud of and always talked with them. What she most loved to do was blueberry picking with her sisters and children. She was a great cook which she made her kitchen so welcoming when she cooked. She made the best bread ever. She was also a elder boardmember who sat on the Board of Education for numerous years. She loved all her grandchildren and chapans. Will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Emma was predeceased by her common law husband: Harvey Dillon: parents: George & Mary Rose Sandfly: sisters: Marie Kahpoonapit, Susan Sandfly, Janet Sandfly; brothers: Alfred Sandfly, Peter Sandfly, Mitchell Sandfly; grandson: Leslie Sandfly.

Wake, Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 12:00 pm., Chief Napew Memorial School Gymnasium, Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan, leaving Memento Funeral Chapel, Cold Lake, Alberta at 11:00 a.m.

Funeral Service, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., Chief Napew Memorial School Gymnasium, Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan, with Kevin Amahoose, Joseph Lachance and the Band Elders officiating. Pallbearers: Adriel Sandfly, Kendall Sandfly, Ryder Sandfly, Thunder Ben, Osman George, Sherwin George. Honorary Pallbearers: Mary Anne George, Katherine Ochuschayoo, Elizabeth Sandfly, Mary Jane Benson. Final Resting Place, Big Island Lake Cemetery, Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan.
