It is with heavy hearts that the family of Tom Wakulchyk announces his passing on May 15, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in Garth, Alberta, Tom lived a full and hardworking life in Iron River, Alberta, where he raised his family and built a legacy rooted in faith, love, and the land.

Tom was a man of many hats—logger, farmer, sawmiller, and truck driver—but above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; his sons Curtis (Vicki) and Kevin (Lillian); and his cherished grandchildren Daniel, Jacob, and Kennedy. He also leaves behind his brothers John, Bill, Walter, and Anton, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss his warmth and wisdom.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Anna, and siblings Nina, Mike, and Pete.

Tom had a deep love for the outdoors and spent countless hours surrounded by nature. Whether it was time at the lake, tilling a field, laying out cut blocks, or running a chainsaw, he found joy in the simple and sacred. He treasured time with family, often with a book in hand—even while riding in the tractor—and he especially enjoyed playing board games with friends. His life was guided by a strong faith in God, which he lived out daily in his actions and his relationships.

A funeral service will be held on May 24 at 1:00 PM at Willow Prairie Hall in La Corey. Interment will follow at Garth Cemetery. Coffee and pie will be served at the hall following the interment, in honour of Tom’s love for both.

In honour of Tom’s life, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.
