WATCH: St. Paul Lions’ Jacob Petruk playing televised Prospects Game

Jacob Petruk is getting national attention for his football prowess.

The 15-year-old is one of 75 high school players chosen to play in the CFC (CanadianFootballChat.com) Top Prospects Game on May 24, in Hamilton, Ontario on TSN.

The offensive lineman, who plays for the St. Paul Saints, and attends F.G. Miller High School in Elk Point, joins an elite club of just ten Albertans invited to play in the showcase event.

“I was pretty surprised to be honest,” Petruk told Lakeland Connect, upon hearing the good news.

Petruk is hoping his size, strength, and ability can attract the attention of Canadian universities or NCAA schools for a scholarship.

Standing at 6’4″, and weighing at 275lbs, he plays in the trenches. While it isn’t the most showcased position, it is arguably the most important, behind quarterback.

“You talk to any o-line coach, they’ll say the game is one in the trenches, which refers to the O line and D line,” he said.

“You’re trying to protect your quarterback. You mess up, you get yelled at. You do a good job, you’ll get some accolades. But most of the time, you’re just doing it to win the game. That’s why it’s good. It’s a team position.”

The selection process included a cross-country tour visiting eight cities featuring a professional combine setting including 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical and broad jump events.

It will be coached by CFL stars Milt Stegall and Davis Sanchez.
