Stolen Equipment Used to Damage RCMP Vehicles in Bonnyville
On May 3, 2025, at approximately 6:55 p.m., a male suspect operating a stolen trackhoe entered the parking lot of the Bonnyville RCMP detachment. The individual proceeded to dump several large boulders in front of the prisoner bay and subsequently caused significant damage to five RCMP vehicles parked on the premises. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Bonnyville RCMP, with the assistance of Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), conducted a swift search of the area. The suspect was located shortly thereafter in a nearby tree line northwest of the detachment. He was taken into custody without further incident and remains held pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
At this time, the suspect’s identity cannot be released as charges have not yet been formally sworn before the courts.

“Officers are still investigating this incident to determine the cause,” states Staff Sergeant Sarah Parke, Alberta RCMP Bonnyville Detachment Commander . “While incidents like this can be frightening for communities, rest assured there is no on-going threat to the public at this time. Alberta RCMP officers from neighbouring detachments were able to quickly assist to ensure on-going police service in Bonnyville. As Alberta’s provincial police service, we are dedicated to restoring safety and security within communities.”
