After roughly eight hours of being missing, authorities were able to recover a stolen firetruck out of Iron River Thursday morning at about 9:00AM.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority’s social media post about the stolen rig spread across the province, and Regional Chief of Emergency Services, Alicia Krawchuk, thanked the public for their help because it did play a part in finding the equipment and getting it back.

According to a press release, the truck was stolen at 1:22AM after alarms of an unauthorized entry into the Iron River (Station 4) Fire Hall.

As fire service members and RCMP arrived, they immediately noticed the truck missing.

Surveillance camera footage is currently being reviewed to assist in the investigation.

The truck is now recovered and moved to a secure facility for further investigation and inspection. Krawchuk told Lakeland Connect she’d more information soon about whether the truck suffered additional damage.

Authorities have not disclosed at this point where the truck was located.

This critical piece of fighting fires also caused a situation, when in the search for this vehicle, a fire call rang out that would’ve normally had Iron River respond.

The BRFA says they are relocating firefighting resources to ensure ongoing protection for the Iron River area and the M.D. of Bonnyville.
