Four oil & gas sites intentionally damaged near Beaverdam, police investigate sabotage after leak

Police are actively looking for suspects after the intentional vandalism of oil wells in the area of Beaverdam on Friday night has caused significant damage to equipment.

Described by someone close to the situation as a “sabotage” on the night of Friday, March 21, four oil and gas locations within the M.D. of Bonnyville near Beaverdam were vandalized. 

The amount of oil that leaked is unknown to the media at this time.

The specific damage includes the intentional release of oil from silos, as well as damaging engines to disrupt operations, and varied from site to site. The sites belong to Check Energy.

Unknown suspect or suspects entered the lease sites some time in the evening and caused significant intentional damage, Cold Lake RCMP told Lakeland Connect. 

Their path of travel is not known.

Cold Lake RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance for any additional information in relation to this incident.

“We continue to investigate and seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s). We ask that if anyone within the Beaverdam area has a doorbell camera or surveillance facing the roadway, to please contact to the Cold Lake RCMP,” police say.
