GALLERY: Fallow awarded Coronation Medal; Long-standing service medals handed out at city council

An annual tradition at city council is to hand out the Alberta Emergency Services Medals for long-term service. This recognition comes in 12, 22, 32, and 40-year intervals for those who dedicate themselves to their communities in fire and emergency services.

Seven men from Cold Lake Fire-Rescue were presented these medals at council chambers by Fire Chief Jeff Fallow on Tuesday.

Fallow was then awarded a prestigious honour of his own, the King Charles III Coronation medal. To be considered for the medal, you must make a significant contribution to the country or province, region or community.

It’s also rare, because these medals are only awarded when there is a change of the throne.

“After 35 years, it’s still the job I love to go to every day,” Fallow said after receiving the honour.

“Thanks to the men and women in the room here, or who with us previously, who have supported my family and the service and the municipality. I’ve managed to live out my dream. I’m very happy to receive this on behalf of the service, as well.”

The list of long-service medals handed out on Tuesday:

  • Assistant (Station) Chief Doug Sirant: 40-year Gold Bar
  • Deputy Chief Norm Hollis: 32-year Silver Bar
  • Deputy Chief Hugh McKay: 32-year Silver Bar
  • Captain Phil Beaudoin: 22-year Bronze Bar
  • Captain Ken Isaacs: 22-year Bronze Bar
  • Lieutenant Gilles Manseau: 22-year Bronze Bar
  • Captain Sean McMillan: 22-year Bronze Bar

“We are truly blessed. As you can see the experience in the room is primarily volunteer-based, we are extremely blessed. On behalf of all residents in Cold Lake — thank you,” said Mayor Craig Copeland.
