Dozens of charges added against suspect in home invasion

Authorities have released the name and a series of more charges related to the attempted home invasion with a gun.

Originally, on Sunday, Feb. 16, at approximately 6:49PM, Bonnyville RCMP responded to the home invasion. The first RCMP reports indicated that the home invasion was in Kehewin, but that is refuted by several local individuals.

However, in the pursuit of the suspect, they were able to apprehend 28-year-old Douglas John. 

On Wednesday afternoon, RCMP announced over three dozen additional charges related to the arrest: 

  • Theft under $5000 (x4)
  • Break and enter with intent (x2)
  • Mischief under $5000 (x2)
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm (x5)
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order (x4)
  • Resist peace officer
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Failure to comply with a probation order (x5)
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Occupy motor vehicle with firearm (x3)
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x5)
  • Trespass at night

Douglas John was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. Police say he appeared on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville.
