Sr. Pontiacs season on the line facing Game 3 at home
The Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs will look to extend their playoff series on Friday night.
They return home stuck trailing 2-0 in the best-of-five series to the Wetaskiwin Longhorns.
Head coach Corey Wandler told Lakeland Connect he hopes they can fill our a larger lineup for the Game 3 do-or-die showdown.
A soon-to-be ragged group of 13 dressed in each of the road contests last weekend.
However, despite lop-sided scores of 12-0 and 7-1 in Game 1 and 2, the Pontiacs outshot the Longhorns a total of 96-74.
Once again for the Pontiacs, Denis Cadrin led the way offensively. The two-time NCHL all-star collected 21 points (8G, 13A), which were two better than newcomer Brayden Labant for tops amongst Bonnyville in 2024-25.
One of the strongest aspects of the team this year was the penalty kill.
Sitting at an eyelash above 86 per cent success rate on the PK, that was 2nd in the NCHL — but Wetaskiwin was first, almost five per cent better.
The Longhorns strong goaltending has been on display, following up their regular season prowess.
Bonnyville (6-10) finished as the 7th seed, while Wetaskiwin (13-3) finished 2nd, just two points short of top of the table.
Their exploits are displayed with the best goal differential in the league, a gaudy +70 surrendering the fewest goals in the NCHL with just 33 scored against them.
Puckdrop on Friday night is late: scheduled for 8:45PM.
If the Pontiacs win, they will host Game 4 on Saturday night. Puckdrop at 8:00PM.
