Bonnyville man named Canada’s fentanyl czar

Canada’s new fentanyl czar has local connections.

Kevin Brosseau is originally from Bonnyville, and on Tuesday, it was announced he will part of the border security measures Canada is beefing up, in response to US President Donald Trump.

Brosseau is a former senior law enforcement officer with the RCMP and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s deputy national security and intelligence advisor.

The fentanyl czar will work with law enforcement and border officials to “accelerate Canada’s ongoing work to detect, disrupt, and dismantle the fentanyl trade.”

Brosseau obtained a law degree from the University of Alberta before graduating from Harvard Law School with a Master of Laws specializing in common law (corporate law and Indigenous law).

He was with the RCMP for over 20 years.
