Extreme Cold Warning for the Lakeland Region
Extremely cold wind chill values near minus 40 are expected or occurring for Monday, February 3, 2025 in the Lakeland region including the M.D. of Bonnyville, Lac La Biche County, County of St. Paul and County of Vermilion River and surrounding communities.
Bus status:
Some local bus routes have been cancelled. Always check with your local bus and school to confirm cancellations.
- Buses in Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St.Paul and Plamondon are cancelled for the day for East Central Francophone.
While temperatures will moderate somewhat during the daytime hours, nighttime and early morning wind chills near minus 40 will likely continue for parts of Alberta until the middle of the week.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
