Armed robbery in rural break & enter sees three people charged

Three people are facing significant charges after an armed robbery at a rural property west of Kitscoty. 

On Saturday morning at 11:19AM, Kitscoty RCMP were notified of a robbery involving a gun at a residence located on Range Road 34. 

The investigation revealed that three people, traveling in a stolen vehicle, broke into a residence and stole firearms. 

While the suspects were at the property, a third party arrived. Police say a suspect pointed at this third party and stole their vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was equipped with GPS tracking, which led officers to a residence in Lloydminster where two suspects were arrested.

Tanis Nicotine, a 29-year-old resident of Lloydminster, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with firearm
  • Break and enter with intent- residence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Weapons possession contrary to order
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Nicotine was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.

Lacey Donnally, a 21-year-old resident of Lloydminster, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with firearm
  • Break and enter with intent – residence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Donnally was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was released on a Release Order with conditions. She is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 3, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion. 

Third suspect apprehended

The third suspect was at large until Tuesday, when police were able to find Shane Donnally, a 46-year-old resident of Hillmond, Sask. 

He faces charges of:

  • Robbery with firearm
  • Break and enter with intent- resident
  • Theft under $5000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Weapons possession contrary to order x2
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with probation order.

Donnally is currently awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

“This incident was interrupted by an innocent property owner. The accused could have easily driven away, but instead they decided to bring firearms into the equation, turning a property crime into a very serious and traumatizing offence that is not common to this area,” said Cpl. Brian Weisbrod, Operations NCO, Kitscoty RCMP. 

“We would like extend our gratitude to the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team, along with neighbouring RCMP detachments, including Lloydminster and Maidstone, for their invaluable assistance in this investigation. Their support and collaboration were instrumental in bringing these suspects to justice.”
