Newly recruited family physician now practising in Cold Lake

A newly recruited family physician is now practising at the local healthcare centre and in the community, improving access to care for local and area residents.

Dr. Valentine Osaigbovo Omoifo is a family medicine physician now practising at the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre and the Cold Lake Medical Clinic. Along with working at the community clinic, he is supporting the local emergency department, inpatient and outpatient services, and long-term care.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Omoifo to Cold Lake,” says Scott Cyr, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul. “His arrival is great news for area residents and the local healthcare team.”

Dr. Omoifo received his medical training and completed his residency in Nigeria, his home country.

He arrived in Cold Lake last month. He and his wife have three children. Together, they enjoy history and current affairs, listening to music, watching movies, sports, hiking and travelling.

“Welcoming Dr. Omoifo to the local healthcare team in Cold Lake is a positive step in ensuring the community continues to receive the best care possible, close to home,” says Dr. Jane Ojedokun, Zone Medical Director in the North Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS). “He is a welcome addition and we are pleased to have him join us.”

Dr. Omoifo says he is looking forward to learning about the city’s history and culture, and building strong relationships with the community.

These planners work closely with partner organizations, such as the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan and local, independent community physician attraction and retention committees.
