Be careful of scams

Scammers are always looking to take advantage of the vulnerable or the unknowing.

On Friday Nov. 15, 2024, the St. Paul RCMP received a report of a fraud where the victim was scammed into buying and sending gift cards.

The RCMP would like to offer the following tips to the public to help deter future fraud:

  • If you did not enter a contest, you are not the winner of the contest
  • If you are told you won a contest, you will not need to send money in order to collect your prize
  • Do not give any personal information or send any money to anyone asking for it
  • If anything about the call seems suspicious, hang up

Police have arrested one individual related to property damage in a rural area near St. Paul.

The incident was reported to St. Paul RCMP on Monday, Nov. 18, before 4:30PM at a residence on Range Road 85.

Once on scene, police learned the suspect had allegedly used barbeque utensils to smash the patio door before fleeing onto neighbouring property.

Then a couple hours later, police received a report of a female in need of help at a property on Range Road 90.

Once on scene, police found the female in a vehicle on the property and discovered she had damaged the interior.

Through investigation, police determined this was the same suspect who had allegedly damaged the property from the first call.

Doris Annie Cardinal, 55, a resident of Saddle Lake was arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief under $5,000 – damage to property (x2)

Cardinal was held for a judicial hearing and released on conditions. She is set to appear at the St. Paul Court of Justice on Dec. 19, 2024.
