St. Paul RCMP provides tips for safe and responsible hunting season
St. Paul RCMP have released a series of tips meant to remind hunters of safe practices during the hunting season.
Keeping responsibility and security top of mind, can also alleviate potential issues with other outdoor enthusiasts.
- Whether in transit or in the field, all firearms should be secured at all times.
- Inspect and check you hunting equipment before heading out to make sure it is in safe working order.
- Store firearms in a locked case or secure them with a trigger lock when not in use.
- Ensuring that your firearm is unloaded when not in use and during transportation.
- Never leave firearms unattended in vehicles or public places, even momentarily. Properly secure them to avoid any risk of theft or misuse.
- Avoid high-traffic areas and clearly marked trails where non-hunters may also be enjoying the outdoors.
- Wear bright or high-visibility clothing, ideally in orange or another standout color, to ensure you’re visible to others.
- Checking that you have the necessary licenses, tags, and permits.
- Respecting any designated zones and protected wildlife areas.
- Follow all hunting season start and end dates as set by local authorities.
- Ensuring that your firearm is unloaded when not in use and during transportation.
- Be Prepared for Emergencies. Carry a first aid kit, a fully charged phone, or a communication device and always inform someone of your hunting location
