Lakeland impacted as Canada Post workers go on strike

Right before perhaps the busiest time of the year, Canada Post workers went on strike on Friday after a notice earlier in the week.

Mail and parcels will not be shipped, the federal agency said on Friday, forcing consumers to seek alternative shipping options during this negotiation. Some post offices across Canada will be closed.

Estimates show that approximately 55,000 workers are on strike, said the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, and dovetails with recent stoppages at Canadian ports.

Workers have been pushing for better wages, improved safety conditions, amongst other items.

Previous strikes in 2011 and 2018 saw back-to-work legislation forced by authorities.

The Town of Bonnyville said this may cause disruptions to Town services.
