Curtis Hargrove’s Marathon Mission: Raising Funds for Stepping Stones Crisis Centre
Curtis Hargrove, a dedicated marathon runner known for his fundraising efforts, is again stepping into his red high heels for a cause close to his heart. In an exclusive interview with Jena Colbourne from Lakeland Connect, Curtis shared his latest mission: raising funds for the Stepping Stones Crisis Centre in Cold Lake.
Curtis, a passionate advocate for victims of domestic violence, has previously walked to Edmonton in red high heels to support women and children affected by this pressing issue. His latest endeavour will see him compete in the prestigious Chicago Marathon with red high heels instead of running shoes this Sunday. Should he complete the marathon, Curtis could earn himself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The current fastest marathon wearing high heels (male) is 5 hours, 13 minutes and 27 seconds and was achieved by Oscar Eriksen (UK), in Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) United Kingdom on 1 May 2023.
Curtis explained that the cause is about more than breaking a world record. “It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something to make a difference. “The Stepping Stones Crisis Centre is a vital resource in our community, and its expansion will allow it to help even more people.
The Stepping Stones Crisis Centre is a women’s shelter in Cold Lake that helps women and children fleeing domestic violence. Unfortunately, last year, the centre had to turn away over 300 women because they could not accommodate them in their current space. This year, they are undergoing significant expansion to serve the community better. The new building will provide enhanced facilities and support for individuals in crisis, ensuring that those in need have a haven and the resources necessary to rebuild their lives. The expansion project is a testament to the Centre’s commitment to offering comprehensive support and fostering a sense of security and hope.
During the interview, Curtis spoke about his motivation and the importance of community support in making a difference. “It’s not just about running; it’s about the impact we can have on people’s lives,” he said. “The Stepping Stones Crisis Centre does incredible work, and with the new expansion, they’ll be able to help even more people. I want to do everything I can to support them.”
His dedication to the cause is evident in his tireless efforts to raise awareness and funds. He encouraged the community to donate to the Stepping Stones Crisis Centre through the official website. “Every donation, big or small, makes a difference,” he emphasized. It’s about coming together to support those who need it most.”
Curtis is taking pledges for his run, with the money raised going directly to the Stepping Stones Crisis Centre. For those looking to support Curtis’s marathon mission and the Stepping Stones Crisis Centre, donations can be made at Stepping Stones Society’s Walk a Mile. Donors are asked to indicate in the notes section that they wish to donate to Curtis. The community’s generosity will play a crucial role in the success of the Centre’s expansion and its ability to provide essential services to those in need.
As Curtis prepares to tackle the Chicago Marathon, his message remains clear: working together can create a safer and more supportive environment for everyone.
