St. Paul RCMP make arrest in rash of recent rural break and enters
In the past month, the St. Paul RCMP have received multiple reports of break-ins into rural lake lot properties within the County of St. Paul.
On Sept. 27, 2024, RCMP located a male suspect in recent break-ins. A warrant to enter the residence was granted, and James Brertton (54), a resident of Saddle Lake, Alta, was arrested. James Brertton was also wanted on other outstanding warrants.
“This investigation demonstrates that the RCMP takes rural property crime very seriously and will continue to work diligently until an arrest is made,” said Cpl. Stephen Cunningham with the St. Paul RCMP.
Police located two unsecured firearms along with several stolen items. Further investigation resulted in James Brertton being charged with:
- break and enter (x4)
- fail to comply with a probation order (x3)
- unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
- possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x2)
- possession of a firearm contrary to an order (x2)
Following a judicial hearing, James Brertton was remanded into custody and is expected to appear at the St. Paul Court of Justice on Oct. 3, 2024.
