A major rehab on the St. Paul Airport pavement is slated to go forward next year.

The Town of St. Paul awarded the contract to Knelsen Sand & Gravel at a bid price of $1,119,317 at the Sept. 9 council meeting, after two successful bids were submitted.

The provincial government came in with a STIP grant (Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program) that will be funding the majority of the project at 75 percent, but the Town and County of St. Paul must each provide 12.5 per cent of the cost.

That comes out to $204,510, after a total project budget estimate of $1,636,080.

“It’s great for us,” said Mayor Maureen Miller on The Morning After.

“It’s been supported by our air ambulance…it is vitally important that our airport remain open and it be safe for those that are landing. That was all part and parcel of that the air ambulance fixed wing that come here and fly out. It’s a high percentage, and the government listened to those concerns.”

Once getting confirmation of the grant this summer, the Town hired HM AERO to complete the project design and tendering components.

The plan is to get going in May 2025 and complete by June.
