Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Unit Seizes Drugs, Weapons, and Money in Vermilion
Successful operation results in $32,000 in fines and multiple criminal charges.
From September 15 to September 20, 2024, members of the Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Unit conducted a high-volume vehicle stop project in the area of Vermilion.
This operation led to significant results, including the issuance of 65 traffic violations amounting to $32,000 in fines.
“While traffic safety is always a primary focus, we understand that criminals use our highways to transport illegal drugs, weapons, and money in their day-to-day activities,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “Officers that are properly trained and equipped can have a profound impact on interdicting these criminals as they travel throughout the province.”
The project also resulted in the execution of 11 outstanding warrants and the laying of 28 criminal code charges, five of which were for driving while prohibited.
Seized Items During the Operation:
- Money believed to be the proceeds of crime
- 48 grams of cocaine
- 15 grams of methamphetamines
- Two handguns, one of which was stolen out of Ontario
The successful operation underscores the importance of well-trained and equipped officers in combating crime on Alberta’s highways. The Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Unit remains committed to ensuring the safety of the province’s roadways while disrupting criminal activities.
