Arts Minister visits Lakeland & Strathcona Performing Arts Theatre
Ahead of the second annual Clayton Bellamy Gala & Golf event this weekend, a visit from the provincial Arts & Culture Minister happened on Monday.
Minister Tanya Fir made several stops across the Lakeland, guided by MLA Scott Cyr, including at the new Strathcona Performing Arts Centre, which continues construction at BCHS.
She called the theatre project “amazing.”
“As Arts and Culture Minister, we know how important it is to make sure that arts and culture is accessible to everyone, whether we’re talking small town, big metropolitan center, everything in between,” Fir told Lakeland Connect.
“I’ve had the opportunity to chat with Clayton once or twice already, and the passion and commitment and excitement and dedication to this project, it’s incredible. It’s really important.”
The theatre continues progress, which will be unveiled during the gala event.
The guest list is quite expansive, includes performances from Aaron Pritchett, Nice Horse, Econoline Crush, Theo Fleury amongst many others.
“We’re getting close to the finish line now, and I know that they’ve been with us every step of the way,” Bellamy said.
“All our big stars that are on their way in there. They’re on planes, trains and automobiles on their way to greet all the people in Bonnyville.”
The event is 95 per cent sold out. The gala is Friday night with musical performances, and will see the performers auctioned off to golf with on Saturday at the Bonnyville Golf & Country Club.
“Our ministers are showing that they really want to be a big part for northern Alberta. I see buy-in. I see a real buy-in from the cabinet, and I want to see all that they can get done for our region.”
