In Loving Memory: Lorna Loose – Memento Funeral Chapel

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lorna Olive Margery Loose of Bonnyville, AB formerly of Cherry Grove announce her passing on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the age of 105 years.

Lorna was born in 1918 during the flu epidemic. She has the distinction of having survived two world pandemics. Her early years were spent in the Dewberry Clandonald area and then later her parents homesteaded in Cherry Grove. It was here she met her future husband, Vernon Loose, and later they also settled in the area and raised their family. She was a hard worker and taught all her 8 kids the importance of getting the work done before they played. Her homemade bread and doughnuts were epic, her home was always filled with the smell of baking bread. She was a woman of faith from her early youth and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints soon after her marriage and was an example of true Christ-like love for all. Not only did she raise her own family but fostered many others, her home was always bursting at the seams with children and friends. She had a special love for doing family history and worked diligently in finding her ancestors. Education was always important and she worked hard to achieve her high school degree and she encouraged her children to pursue an education. She loved to read and learn and play word games. Even after she turned 100 she still loved to play Scrabble online with her family on her iPad and keep up with everyone through email. She is remembered with much love by everyone whose life she touched. A true example of Christ-like love and service.

Lorna is lovingly survived by her seven children: Jim (Rhonda) Loose of Prince George, BC, Donna (Wayne) Lybbert of Magrath, AB, Alan Loose of Lethbridge, AB, Lorene Douglas of Cherry Grove, AB, Beth (Bryce) Burgess of Pierceland, SK, Sandra (Tony) Anthony of Calgary, AB, Jacob Loose of Magrath, AB; daughter-in-law: Mary Lyn Loose; brother: Gilbert (Pat) Craige of Calgary, AB; forty-two grandchildren; as well as numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Lorna was predeceased by her husband: Vernon Loose; son: Ken Loose; parents: Lorne & Alene Craige; sister: Mabel Cook; son-in-law: Barry Douglas; grandchild: Amanda Loose; great granddaughter: Edith Grace Loose.

Visitation, Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memento Funeral Chapel, Cold Lake, AB.

Graveside Service, Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Cherry Grove Community Cemetery, Cherry Grove, AB. Pallbearers: Brian Loose, Darin Loose, Vince Burgess, Doran Douglas, Jonathan Adam’s, Brett Lybbert.

Funeral Service, Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Cherry Grove Community Centre, Cherry Grove, AB with Bishop Stephen Wille officiating.

Memorial tributes in memory of Lorna may be sent to a Missionary Fund for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
