Haying in the 30s event returns for 26th annual event

Last Updated: July 31, 2024By Tags: ,

It’s like walking through a time machine.

The Haying in the 30’s Cancer Support Society’s annual event is this Saturday and Sunday with the kickoff parade at 10:30AM. The volunteer ran event in Mallaig is a special experience — with an authentic replication of farm-life in the 1930s.

Hundreds if not thousands come down to camp for the weekend, as the entire event is free. They ask for you to donate though, as part of their mission of helping families dealing with cancer diagnosis receive much-needed funds. One hundred per cent of donations go back to the families, in the Lakeland and across Alberta, undergoing cancer treatment.

Since 1999, over 7,500 donations have been given out to those who apply. A new fundraising record was set last year, with over $330,000 raised.

Showcases abound from blacksmithing, the corn grinder, saw mill, a stage coach demo, and knife making, and that just scratches the surface.

The grounds have several buildings that take you back to a different time, from the post office to the dentist.

Supper on Saturday night is served at 6:00PM, with an Old Time Ho Down scheduled that night.

The fun continues on Sunday until 4:00PM.

Haying in the 30s is an annual event held in Mallaig, Alberta where a group of dedicated volunteers get the grounds ready for thousands to visit every August long weekend. The event is completely free, which includes camping, meals, a ho down, and a simulation of farming life almost 100 years ago. They take donations to support those undergoing cancer treatments with $1000 payments. They have helped thousands of families from across Alberta and beyond. #Alberta #farming #farmlife #farmtok #mallaig #stpaul #canadianfarmers🇨🇦 #bonnyville #coldlake #farm #timemachine #retro #history
