Vermilion RCMP: 69 charges laid in July

During the month of June 2024, Vermilion RCMP responded to 257 calls for service. 

Of those, 147 were related to traffic/vehicle complaints, 48 were related to property crimes, 15 were related to persons crimes, 21 were traffic collisions, and 5 were suspicious persons or vehicles. 

The property crime breakdown is: 18 mischiefs (damage to property or obstructing lawful enjoyment), 10 break and enters, eight thefts, three frauds, and two were thefts of vehicles. 

In addition, 11 calls were related to spousal abuse, and 10 were related to mental health concerns.

During this period, Vermilion RCMP laid 69 charges, including 27 criminal code, and 42 provincial offences. Seventeen of the criminal charges were related to failing to comply with conditions/court, seven were related to property crimes, and three were related to persons crimes. Further, three individuals were issued notice of administrative penalties for driving while impaired.

“With the Vermilion Fair upon us, there will be an influx of vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area. I would like to encourage residents and attendees to slow down, allow extra time to arrive at your destination, and always arrange a safe, and sober, ride home,” says Sergeant Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander. 

“As usual, we will have extra staff working to support this great community event.”

Business hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday excluding stat holidays. If it is an emergency, you can also call 911. Non-emergent crimes can be reported via Online Crime Reporting and the Alberta RCMP App which is available through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
