Food trucks parking on 1st Avenue near Kinosoo Beach must park in Vendor Alley: Copeland
After complaints to the City about mobile food vendors parking along 1st Avenue in front of Kinosoo Beach, Mayor Craig Copeland says these trucks need to park in “Vendor Alley” adjacent to the beach.
One truck in particularly was “reserving” a spot by placing pylons along the roadway, but the City found out that they didn’t have the necessary permits in the first place.
The City’s Mobile Vendor Policy does not provide the authority to reserve public parking stalls at Kinosoo Beach or any other areas in Cold Lake.
“There’s such a limited parking down on 1st Avenue as it is for the beach. What we’ve decided is that, when we sort of did all the enhancements at Kinosoo Beach, there’s a paved trail, kind of a pavement that goes from the food restaurant there, all the way past the basketball courts and keeps going, right? And so the idea is that we want the vendors to use that. It’s called vendor alley. There’s power there,” said Copeland on The Morning After.
“We’ll bring it back to budget deliberations this fall to see if we can come in enhance that food vendor alley, because it can be difficult if you’re moving your rig in there.”
It’s only special events, such as Canada Day and Feast at the Beach, where food trucks can set up along 1st Avenue, Copeland said.
