Kehewin breaks ground on new skatepark; Frog Lake soon
Construction is underway to help improve recreation in local First Nations communities.
Tribal Chief Child and Family Services (East) Society has earmarked surplus dollars to build skateparks and splash parks in Kehewin and Frog Lake.
Last Wednesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Kehewin for the new skatepark, which they hope to have built quickly by the end of August.
“We need to make something for the kids,” said Shelley Whitford, Agency Programs Supervisor for TCCFS (East) Society. “They were saying that there’s nothing in the nation for the youth.”
The skatepark and future splash park will be near the administration building in Kehewin.
Trevor Morgan, owner of New Line SkatePark from Calgary, met with both Nations schools and asked the youth to design their dream skateparks, He took all their ideas and designed them each a skate park.
Frog Lake’s skatepark is scheduled to get underway next year.
