Carjacking, robbery, and arson charges laid amongst five arrested: Bonnyville RCMP

Five people were taken into police custody following a carjacking in Kehewin.

Bonnyville RCMP responded to a call on Sunday, June 23 of a report from a victim that she had been carjacked at knife-point by two males.

Police say while they were en route, there was a sighting of the victim’s vehicle in a field in Kehewin with 4-5 people standing around it. Moments later, the vehicle was on fire and the offenders were seen running towards a house in Kehewin.

Police Dog Services attended and assisted in tracking the suspects which resulted in Ariel Knight of Cold Lake being found hiding in the bushes not far from the burning vehicle. She was arrested.

Bonnyville members and Police Dog Services then surrounded the house and called out the offenders, police said.

Farlynn Smallchild of Thunderchild First Nation and Bradley Whitstone of Kehewin surrendered and were taken into custody.

RCMP said further information indicated that the two remaining offenders were still inside the residence hiding in a crawl space with two long guns.

Containment was set up and the K Division Emergency Response Team was called out to assist. This resulted in the further surrender of Phoenix Standingwater of Thunderchild First Nation and Jadelyn Badger of Kehewin.

A search warrant done on Monday saw the seizure of two firearms. All five of the accused were held for Bail Hearings.
