Nearly time for big CPCA Chuckwagon weekend in Cold Lake
For the first time in a long time, Cold Lake is playing host to the wagons, welcoming the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association to town for three days of racing competition.
“It’s been almost a decade since we’ve had them at our track here,” said Dustin Foulds, marketing and maintenance manager for the Cold Lake Ag Society.
In the last few days, more action has been added. After with the chuckwagons, the Elite Indian Relay Association will be racing on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
Also Chasin’ the Chucks, with open and youth 15 and younger categories, will be the warmup to the wagons, with prize money at the end sponsored by the Pierceland Hotel.
“We had one of our former members bring the idea back to the board and we worked with that and decided it was something we wanted to try again and see it. We have the track, we have the facilities, why not utilize it?” he said.
“A lot of people are really excited to see the wagons back.”
The Saturday night dance will include music from the Gypsy Renegades.
Tickets have been moving fast for the event, which are available online at coldlakeag.com/tickets. Beyond the VIP tickets are also the flex tickets, which can be used on any of the three days from June 14-16.
Logan Gorst is currently first in CPCA driver standings. Bonnyville’s Danny Ringuette sits second.
