Luke Tournier was the grand prize winner of the Bonnyville Chuckwagons Champions, capping off the 2024 Pro Rodeo weekend in town.
Despite inconsistent weather, the drivers put together competitive runs leading up to the Sunday $22,000 Dash for Cash.
Tournier, driving the SITE Resource Group outfit, won the championship with a penalty free run of 1:18.07 from barrel number 1, edging out local Rae Croteau Jr. by 1.39 seconds.
Croteau’s weekend was successful. On Night 2 he had the best time in his iconic rainbow wagon, sponsored by Cinch Oilfield Hauling & Cranes Ltd.
These two made the final heat in aggregate times along with Chanse Vigen and Layne MacGillivary.
MacGillivary crossed the finish line first, but knocked over a penalty during the run, bested in that run by Vigen, KUDO Energy Servies, who was the day money winner on Night 3.
This is Tournier’s third win in Bonnyville, as he was joined by outriders Rory Gervais and Quaid Tournier.
Jason Glass finished Night 1 with the best penalty free time of 1:16.47.
Croteau Jr. sits third overall in the World Professional Chuckwagon Association standings at the moment.
The next set of WPCA races are in Medicine Hat from June 20-23.
The local chuckwagon action carries on this weekend in Cold Lake with the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association races from June 14-16.
During Saturday’s rodeo competitions, the Lakeland Extreme Drill Team sported Edmonton Oilers jerseys before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
