Massive seizure of $150K in stolen property taken from rural St. Paul property

Several police forces combined to recover roughly $150,000 in stolen property in the County of St. Paul.

It happened on Wednesday, May 15, where Elk Point RCMP with help from Bonnyville RCMP, Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and K Division Auto Theft Unit executed the search warrant. 

Officers were able to recover stolen property including an all terrain vehicle, utility terrain vehicle, vertical tillage equipment, and a tractor.

As a result of the investigation, Leslie Alan Hillebrand, 46, a resident of the County of St. Paul, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 x 4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
  • Possession of weapon contrary to order
  • Possession of suspected methamphetamine
  • Altering a vehicle identification number

Following a judicial interim release hearing, Hillebrand was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 23, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.

“The reduction of property crime in the Elk Point area has been one of our detachment’s main priorities. This seizure was made possible through the joint effort of multiple detachments and units. We are committed to ensuring offenders responsible for these crimes are put before the courts,” said Cst. Shad Martyn, Elk Point Detachment.
