Register now for a major Native Youth Arts Festival coming to Kehewin
A festival is coming up in Kehewin to empower Indigenous youth with the arts.
The Kehewin Native Dance Theatre is presenting the Oskayak Atoskeyakanak International Native Youth Arts Festival from Wednesday, May 15 to Thursday, May 16.
Happening at the Kehewin School, (Kinokamasihk Kiskinohamatokamik School), the festival will feature Hawaiian dancers, Aztec dancers, Violet Duncan, Wilfred Buck, DJ Kokom, Beany John, and many more.
Included in performances are traditional and contemporary workshops and guest speakers.
- Festival registration fee Is $5.00 for each youth per day.
- Lunch fee $5.00 (including a sandwich, juice, fruit and dessert) per day
- T-shirts will be available in youth sizes small to x-large at a fee of $15.00 and $25 S – XXXL
They ask that each child brings a refillable water bottle, as we will not have plastic water bottles available.
The Wednesday there will be a MMIWG Red Dress honouring, where girls are asked to wear a Red Jingle or Fancy Dance dress. On the Thursday, they will be honouring residential school survivors, and ask anyone who has an orange shirt wear it on that day.
