On Wednesday’s morning Connected! show, Michael, Husband Chad, Heaven, and Producer Patience weighed in on the vodka jug controversy sweeping Alberta. Connected airs Tuesday to Thursday at 7:30AM on Lakeland Connect’s Facebook, Vimeo, and website, lakelandconnect.net.

Story

After the province’s Service Minister took aim at the 4L Value Vodka jugs were being sold for $50 at an Edmonton liquor store, causing conversation throughout Alberta about the branding and look of the vast and cheap product, floor pricing will not be imposed.

The story of Value Vodka, made by T-Rex Distillery, — a plastic jug similar to a milk jug — was seen on a liquor store shelf in the capital city for $50 earlier this week.

This prompted the cabinet minister who oversees liquor in the province, Dale Nally, to weigh in.

He was quoted on Tuesday saying, “that’s not very responsible” and while it wasn’t against the rules, that it wasn’t in “the spirit of Albertans.”

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis sets the wholesale price that retailers must pay to purchase products.

The situation caused support for his comments and strong opposition to the minister’s comments. For now, no floor pricing will be imposed, but changes are still possible.

T-Rex said it was halting production of the vodka jugs.
