GALLERY: Cold Lake comes together for Cenovus Energy Arena announcement
It will no longer be called just the “second rink” at the Cold Lake Energy Centre.
The name is now the Cenovus Energy Arena, thanks to a long-term sponsorship between the oil company and the City of Cold Lake, officially announced at a ceremony on Sunday.
With local dignitaries on hand as well as Lynda Minoose, Cold Lake First Nation elder, Cold Lake First Nation drummers, Cenovus representatives, and Olympic speed skaters Tyson Langelaar and Brooklyn McDougall — it was an afternoon full of free activities.
A free public skate was held afterward on the ice, with the opportunity afterwards to hear a presentation from the Olympic athletes, as well as look at the hardware earned through international competition.
Free food in the lounge included hot dogs, cotton candy, bannock, as well as drinks. The little kids also could get sparkle tattoos and balloon animals to brighten their day.
