Brooklyn Haygarth nominated for Edwin Parr Teacher Award
Aspen View Public Schools is pleased to announce Brooklyn Haygarth as its nominee for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award, presented annually by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) to six outstanding first-year teachers from across the province. Ms. Haygarth currently teaches a Grade 4/5/6 combined class at Rochester School and K-3 Music and option classes.
“The first year of teaching can be challenging,” Rochester School Principal Elizabeth Siemens said March 14 as she introduced Ms. Haygarth to the Aspen View Public Schools Board of Trustees. “Add to that a multi-grade classroom, new curriculum for mathematics and literacy, and a quarter to a third of the class requiring special support, and it can be perceived as downright overwhelming.”

Ms. Haygarth thrives despite these obstacles, Principal Siemens continued. “Ms. Haygarth is not afraid of challenges within her classroom, whether social or academic. When confronted with a novel situation, Ms. Haygarth seeks understanding and feedback on how best to deal with the problem. (She) has ensured students learn their curriculum by planning, learning from others, reflecting on lessons she has taught, and responding to challenges as they appear.
“Ms. Haygarth interacts professionally with students, parents/guardians, staff and community members. When issues arise, she is prompt in dealing with them,” Principal Siemens concluded. “I feel privileged to work alongside Ms. Haygarth and appreciate all that she has done to make Rochester School an exceptional place to be.”
“My journey thus far has been filled with learning, growth and countless moments of joy, thanks to the collective efforts of everyone within the Aspen View School Division,” Ms. Haygarth commented. “Thank you all for your support, guidance and belief in my potential. My gratitude extends to the incredible staff at Rochester School – a place I’ve come to call home. The support from fellow teachers, educational support staff and administration has been unwavering.
“Our students are at the heart of everything we do,” she added. “Their enthusiasm, curiosity and resilience have been a constant source of inspiration. They remind me daily of the impact we can have as educators and the responsibility we carry in shaping their futures.”
