Two stolen vehicles, twice released after charges laid

A Cold Lake teenager is being charged after multiple vehicle thefts in just a few short days.

On March 6th just after midnight a member of the Bonnyville RCMP attempted to pull over a truck that ran a stop sign.

The truck did not pull over and fled to a trailer park North of Bonnyville.  The driver was located and arrested.

The 2012 Ford F150 he had been driving was determined to have been stolen in Glendon just a couple hours prior.

Klody Cardinal, 19 year old, of Cold Lake, is charged with Possession of a Stolen Truck Over $5000, Obstruction and Flight from a Police Officer. Cardinal was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released him on the condition that he not be found in possession of a vehicle unless the registered owner is present.

However, three days later on March 9th just after 6:00am, Cardinal was noted by RCMP to be fuelling up another stolen vehicle at a local gas station, this time a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado stolen from Ardmore a week prior.

When RCMP approached he tried to drive away but was unable.  He opted to then flee on foot but was soon captured by Bonnyville RCMP and Cold Lake Police Dog Services.

Additional charges of Possession of a Stolen Truck Over $5000, Obstruction, Theft from a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Comply with a Release Order (from just 3 days previous) were laid against Cardinal, who was brought back before a Justice of the Peace who again released him back out into the community.

His court appearance is March 19th.
