Cold Lake’s Gateway RV Park will be closed.

Following the Feb. 27 city council meeting, the decision was made because it isn’t getting nearly as much usage as years ago.

The RV Park was born in 2007 by the Cold Lake Information Centre as a way to respond to host more people coming into the city for events or work.

But usage has dropped significantly since 2015. Despite an upward blip in 2021, believed to related to pandemic measures, last year was the worst on record, garnering all but $850 in earnings in 2023.

“We’ve seen that the numbers tail off,” said Mayor Craig Copeland on The Morning After.

“At the same time, the M.D. stepped in and did that amazing campground for the M.D. Cold Lake park. And so there really isn’t a need right now for that site.”

Copeland said that land be sold commercially as a prime piece of real estate.

Alternative areas had been previously discussed in Imperial Park masterplans.
