Four families will soon be able to benefit from affordable housing in Cold Lake.

Habitat for Humanity Edmonton chapter the announced the build for new homes on 54th Avenue in the city on Wednesday.

The homes present an opportunity for four families, couples, or singles to become homeowners in an increasingly difficult housing market. Their monthly payments will be affordable and will provide them with the foundation for a promising future.

“Some people get ahead and some people fall behind. But everybody deserves a safe place to live,” said Erin McNeill, Director of Development for Habitat.

The four homes will be built in Cold Lake South on 54 Avenue, beside the other two Habitat homes.

When the occupants are ready to move on from the Habitat program, they sell their homes back to Habitat and use their equity to buy a home on the open market or for other meaningful life goals. Habitat is proud to partner with the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Government of Alberta, City of Cold Lake, and Value Master Homes to complete the homes.

These houses are projected to be built by the late summer or early fall.

Six total lots have been donated by the City towards Habitat’s cause.

“We’re very supportive of Habitat for Humanity and years ago it was the Government of Alberta that brought the City and Habitat for Humanity together,” said Mayor Craig Copeland.

“Council’s been thrilled by all the work they’ve done in their city. And I think the timing and affordability putting up here in the next few months is going to be fantastic. Our city is really gonna be growing here with the F35 program for the next few years.”
