Need something to do? Long weekend stuffed with Family Day events
How does your family like to spend the long weekend in February?
There is no lack of things to do across the Lakeland for Family Day Weekend, the aptly named holiday Monday that it seems every community has something planned for.
In Elk Point, the Family Day Skate & play is happening at the AG Ross Arena on Monday.
From 11:00am-2:00pm, bring your skates and get some exercise, or take part in some games. There are free burgers and hot drinks to enjoy.
Meanwhile, Shiverfest is already underway in St. Paul.
Whether its family curling, cheap bowling or swimming, the St. Lina Society’s family dance, or tobogganing, there are a variety of free or reduced price activities through the weekend to enjoy.
How about some live music?
The City of Cold Lake is bringing in Aaron Pritchett on his Liquored Up tour for Saturday night at the Energy Center. Special guests Cory Marks and Matt Lang are supporting Pritchett’s tour through Alberta. Tickets are $45 and can be found on Ticketmaster.
Sunday afternoon at Vezeau Beach sees a free event put on by the Bonnyville Oilmen’s Society.
There will be sleigh rides, ice fishing, curling, skating, bonfires and games, plus food and drinks from noon till 4:00pm.
The Bonnyville Community Church is having its 2024 Food Extravaganza. Doors open at 5:00pm on Monday evening, but you’ll need tickets beforehand. They can be found at the church or at Fine Food Imports and Centre Suite Motel.
Ice fishing is the theme of the weekend for Age Friendly Cold Lake Society.
The 4th annual Cold Lake Ice Fishing Tounament returns, and is well supported across the province. Stay tuned to Lakeland Connect for the live draw of their 50/50 raffle, which will help support their programming.
Winterland Invitational
One of the major influxes into Cold Lake, Bonnyville, and Elk Point will be the 5th annual (in-person) Winterland Invitational, a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Local rinks will be packed with 48 teams from all over descending to our area for U9, U11, and U13 hockey.
Supported by legions of volunteers, you can support the cause by buying a 50/50 ticket online here. Right now, the pot sits at just over $2600.
Residents are encouraged to come out and watch some entertaining minor hockey action, with the players donning the iconic red and white striped socks.
