Continue reporting crimes, says Vermilion RCMP detachment Sergeant

During the month of January, 2024, Vermilion RCMP responded to 261 calls for service.

This includes 106 as traffic/vehicle complaints, 36 were related to property crimes, 21 were traffic collisions, 19 were crimes against persons, and six were suspicious persons or vehicles.

Of the property crime, 10 were thefts,  five were theft of vehicles, five were break and enters, and five were frauds. In addition, 12 calls were related to persons involving mental health concerns and 8 were related to spousal abuse.

During this period, Vermilion RCMP laid 58 charges including 28 criminal code charges, 29 provincial offences and 1 controlled drugs and substances offence. Eleven of the criminal charges were related to persons crimes, 11 were related to failing to comply with conditions/court, four were related to firearms and two were related to property crimes.

“I continue to see property crimes reported on local social media pages that are not being reported to the RCMP. I recognize that we can’t solve every crime, but it certainly helps us to have the ‘big picture’ so that we can identify crime trends and make adjustments as needed,” says Sergeant Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander.

“Please report instances of property crime to the Detachment directly or via the Alberta RCMP App or Online Crime Reporting.”

Business hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday excluding stat holidays. If it is an emergency, you can also call 911. Non-emergent crimes can be reported via Online Crime Reporting and the Alberta RCMP App which is available through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
