Two stolen vehicles, two charged, with help from Police Dog Services
Cold Lake RCMP released these images taken as they located one of the stolen vehicles.
Two people are facing charges after both were linked to stolen vehicle investigations by the Cold Lake RCMP.
On Monday night at around 7:20pm, Cold Lake RCMP received a tip from the public about the location of a stolen vehicle, in the area of Highway 897 and Township Road 604.
Police patrolled the area and with help from Police Dog Services, located the vehicle on Cold Lake First Nations, along with another vehicle that had been previously reported stolen.
After both fled police from a traffic stop, a spike belt was successfully deployed on both vehicles, leading to the apprehension of two suspects.
As a result of the investigation, Jarett Scanie, 27, a resident of Cold Lake, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer;
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle;
- Fail to comply with release order (x2);
- Operate motor vehicle while prohibited;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5000; and
- Driving motor vehicle while unauthorized.
Furthermore, Shania Heathen, 23, a resident of Lloydminster, who was also arrested on outstanding warrants, has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
Scanie and Heathen were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody. They are to appear on Feb. 21, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.
