Spike belt used to stop stolen vehicle, 19 year old & youth charged
Two young people are facing charges following a stolen vehicle investigation from Cold Lake RCMP.
The situation unfolded started on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 10:18am.
Cold Lake RCMP said on Wednesday they received a tip from the public regarding a stolen vehicle.
After speaking to the complainant, police were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the area of the Elizabeth Metis townsite. Police attempted to pull the suspect vehicle over, but it proceeded to flee and police followed.
Using a tire deflation device, Cold Lake RCMP, with assistance from Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services, were able to successfully apprehend two suspects, one of which was a youth, police say.
As a result of the investigation, Claire Cardinal, 19, a resident of Elizabeth Metis Settlement, and the youth, were charged with:
- Flight from police officer;
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000; and
- Fail to comply with order (x2).
Cardinal and the youth were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.
The youth is not named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
