Stolen truck creates multiple collision in St. Paul

Multiple collisions in St. Paul this week was due to a police suspect in a stolen vehicle driving dangerously.

The situation began at roughly 3:30pm on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

St. Paul RCMP got a report of a theft of items from a vehicle at a local business. The owner was able to provide RCMP with surveillance footage of the suspect and a description of the suspect vehicle.  

A couple hours later at 5:54pm, another complaint was lodged that the same suspect had just rammed into the original complainant who had found the suspect.  

Driving dangerously through the town in order to get away from the complainant, the suspect truck ran into another vehicle, causing a second collision.

RCMP were patrolling and said they found the truck abandoned at a local apartment. RCMP set up containment and were able to find the suspect inside an apartment unit, which resulted in an arrest. 

The suspect’s truck that rammed into two vehicle was stolen out of Edmonton.

Police investigation revealed the accused had stolen an enclosed trailer from a residence in St. Paul, which was later recovered as well.

Jaden Scanie, 25 year-old of Cold Lake First Nation, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous Operation of a MV
  • Possession of stolen property over 5 thousand dollars
  • Possession of stolen property under 5 thousand dollars
  • Operation of a MV while prohibited
  • Assault with a weapon

Scanie was remanded into custody after a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Thursday, Feb. 15.
