Lac La Biche & Smoky Lake hospitals without physician coverage in ED at times this week
Two Lakeland area hospitals will have disrupted emergency rooms this week.
Note the dates and time that the William J. Cadzow – Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre emergency department and George McDougall – Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre emergency department will be without on-site physicians.
Lac La Biche:
- 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7 – 8 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8
- 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9 – 8 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10
Smoky Lake:
- 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6 – 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7
- 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7 – 8 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8
- 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 – 8 a.m., Friday, Feb. 9
Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department providing triage, assessments and referrals for patients to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities, as needed.
Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding healthcare centres.
Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.
If coverage is found, disruptions may be cancelled. This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time.
