Housefire claims life on Wednesday in Saddle Lake

A housefire has claimed the life of a Saddle Lake resident.

On Wednesday, St. Paul RCMP said during proactive patrols they saw flames coming from inside a residence on Highway 36 in Saddle Lake First Nations.

RCMP attended, as well as the Saddle Lake Fire Services and EMS. Upon arrival, the residence was found fully engulfed and deemed unfit for entry.

Once the fire was extinguished, human remains were discovered within the residence, police say.

St. Paul RCMP are in its early stages of the investigation and are being assisted by the Alberta Medical Examiners Office and the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit.

After preliminary investigation, the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Condolences are being issued to the family and friends of the deceased.
