Derwent man charged with one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal
Dog had to be euthanized as a result of injuries, RCMP say.
A man facing a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is soon to stand trial.
On Sept. 9, 2023, Vermilion RCMP received an animal complaint involving an aggressive dog in the community of Derwent. Police say their investigation determined that a dog at large was responsible for an attack on a number of ducks and another dog.
Further investigation determined that both dogs involved belonged to the same owner. Both dogs showed signs of neglect and improper care.
As a result of this investigation, Jeffery Foerster, 54, a resident of Derwent, was charged with one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Foerster was issued an appearance notice to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on Jan. 15, 2024.
“Members worked with a local vet in an effort to save the injured dog, however, it was determined the animal had to be euthanized,” says Sergeant Corey Buckingham of Vermilion RCMP.
