In Loving Memory: William John (Johnny) Cherniwchan – Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel

It is with tremendous sadness the family of William John (Johnny) Cherniwchan of Bellis, AB announce his passing on December 11, 2023 at the age of 74 years. John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy, four sons Kevin (Tracy) Cherniwchan and their children Courtney (Evan), Derek, and Jake; Sheldon (Karen) Cherniwchan and their children Lauren, Maxim, and Tanner; Shawn (Donna) Cherniwchan and their children Justin, Nathan, and Kyle; Dean (Connie) Cherniwchan and their children Reed and Austin; and one daughter Leanna (Will) Gray and their children Isabella, Abbygail and Mason. He is also survived by his sister Betty Fields and his mother Cecelia Cherniwchan.

He was predeceased by his father William (Bill) Cherniwchan, paternal grandparents John and Raifta Cherniwchan, maternal grandparents John and Elizabeth Bidniak, one brother-in-law Frank Fields.

John was born in Vilna, AB on October 21, 1949.  After graduating high school, John spent some time working in Edmonton, but moved back to the farm in 1974 where he and Nancy raised their family near Bellis, AB. John’s connection to his rural roots was the core of who he was, and it is this connection that has and will continue to run through his legacy.  John was a family man, but he was also known by many as a dear friend and neighbour. His hospitality and welcoming nature were known by many.   Rest in Peace – Eternal Memory – Vichnaya Pamyat.

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Haying in the 30’s” or a charity of one’s choice.   To send condolences online, please visit www.gracegardensfuneralchapel.com.
