Cold Lake Fire-Rescue has received two grants totaling ,000 for rescue equipment.

“Keeping Cold Lake Fire-Rescue up-to-date with their equipment is important,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “And it’s always good to see corporate partners step up to assist. Fire-Rescue members work hard to be prepared to assist residents of Cold Lake and our greater region and these grants will help them do their job while keeping their members safe.”

Two grants of $7,500 each came from the Enbridge Fueling Futures program for funding of new rope-rescue equipment and river-rescue equipment.

The rope-rescue equipment is used for rescues at height, and Fire-Rescue’s previous equipment was showing its wear and age. The river-rescue equipment currently includes two river-rescue watercraft. With new grant funding, Cold Lake Fire-Rescue will expand its river-rescue equipment to include a trailer for the watercraft, as well as additional safety equipment, such as lifejackets, helmets, and paddles.

“Our members are dedicated to keeping their skills up-to-date and it’s very encouraging to see Enbridge help keep our equipment current as well,” said Fire Chief Jeff Fallow. “We serve a large area with diverse terrain and many options to recreate by water. Both rope rescue and water rescue are disciplines which are relevant in the context of our community and region. It’s encouraging to see community partners recognize the importance of this equipment and make these valuable contributions to our service.”

One rope-rescue kit has been purchased for each of the two stations in the city. The watercraft trailer and accessories have also been purchased and are ready for future rescue calls.
